This pool strategy is similar to what the Blood Banks use for screening donated sera fir HIV antibody and other infections. It is a very old pool successf.ul strategy.
Asif Rizwan

Why not doing a 2 dimensional pooling, instead of 1D?
Jerry Cangelosi
55:59
Asif, wouldn't that increase operational complexity?
Eric Evans
56:27
2D pooling would greatly increase the next requirement when you get a positive.

How do you minimize possible stigmatization of individuals or pods who are "tapped" for secondary testing?
Holly Porter
01:09:14
The 100% negative results are really amazing when incident rates are going up in the DC population. Is the self-reporting that comes before the testing make that work well? How do the COVID infection rates in the school population (is it zero?) compare to the 100% negative tests WIS is getting?
Irene Kuo
01:09:34
It should be noted that there were positive cases but they were diagnosed outside of school-based testing (which is good). It was helpful to have school based testing to reassure students who were returning to school of their negative status

As a parent (and public health researcher), I have been happy and impressed with this program. I have appreciated the contribution to public health for proof of concept and keeping students/staff/faculty safe.

Prevalence (not to be confused with positivity) is running about 4% nationwide. But if you screen out symptomatic people, obviously you get a much lower number.

Can you imagine the process for large public schools?

Given this is an out-of-lab PCR test (by requirement and for good reasons), does the test itself have an inherent/equivalent cycle-threshold (Ct)?
Suzanna Jemsby
01:14:32
@Eric — every family completes a form every day for each child confirming that they are asymptomatic.
Suzanna Jemsby
01:15:23
@Maryline — yes, albeit with a different internal staffing model.

May I send a link of this recording to my daughter who works in a pediatric dental office and has kids in school? I believe it would be an eye opening experience for her.
